Slovakia ranks 59th in Transparency International's (TI) latest corruption perception index, down 12 places annually. The drop reflects the current government's crackdown on anti-corruption efforts and limits on public consultations on public projects. TI pointed to the abolition of the special prosecutor's office and the elite police unit Naka that fought top-level corruption. TI warned global corruption levels are still alarmingly high and anti-corruption efforts are waning. Ranking of neighboring countries in the TI index, with scores in brackets on a scale of 0-100 (100 being no corruption):
| 2024 | 2014 |
Austria | 25 (67) | 23 (72) |
Czechia | 46 (56) | 53 (51) |
Poland | 53 (53) | 36 (61) |
Slovakia | 59 (49) | 54 (50) |
Hungary | 82 (41) | 48 (54) |
