Slovakia is down 12 places in Transparency International's latest corruption perception index

Slovakia ranks 59th in Transparency International's (TI) latest corruption perception index, down 12 places annually. The drop reflects the current government's crackdown on anti-corruption efforts and limits on public consultations on public projects. TI pointed to the abolition of the special prosecutor's office and the elite police unit Naka that fought top-level corruption. TI warned global corruption levels are still alarmingly high and anti-corruption efforts are waning. Ranking of neighboring countries in the TI index, with scores in brackets on a scale of 0-100 (100 being no corruption):
