Czech soft drink companies Kofola and Mattoni 1873 each acquired a third of the shares in Slovak-based General Plastic that makes forms for PET bottles and recycles plastics. The Ján Sabol group keeps the remaining third; its Water Holding is among the largest Slovak soft drink makers. The deal’s value was not disclosed. The company plans to invest millions into new technologies in response to the deposit-return scheme for PET bottles being launched in Slovakia in 2022 and a new duty obliging all PET bottles to contain at least 25% recycled plastics starting in 2025. Last year, General Plastic cut its losses 24% to €0.1m and its sales were down 22% to €16.9m.
