Revenues from the new tax on sugary soft drinks, introduced in January, are in line with expectations, according to the Finance Ministry. Forecasts of significant stockpiling at the end of last year did not materialize, prompting an upward revision of the 2025 revenue estimate by €20m to €89m. Revenue should gradually increase to €99m by 2029. eKasa data for January-May show an annual drop in sales of sweetened beverages by 12% and syrups by 6%, while energy drinks rose by 8%. The price hike for sweetened drinks exceeded the tax burden. In May, prices were 41% higher than in December.
