Telecoms regulator ÚREKPS postponed the auction of 900 and 2,100 MHz frequencies to the beginning of 2024, sources tell zive.sk. The initial deadline was the end of this year. It responded to a change in government and objections from the anti-trust authority PMÚ as well as mobile phone operators. The regulator is mulling over favoring the small operator 4ka in the auction in an attempt to foster market competition. 4ka’s competitors protest any favorable treatment. 4ka only has frequencies suitable for cities, while it lacks frequencies to cover rural areas. PMÚ advised that the European Commission review the auction conditions from the point of view of state assistance.
