Peter Pellegrini will win the presidential election, which will strengthen Smer and weaken Hlas, predicts the daily N. The ruling coalition will abolish the special prosecutor's office and cut penalties for corruption. The opposition PS party will win the European Parliament election. SNS leader Andrej Danko will make it to the EP, and Tomáš Taraba will replace him as Deputy Speaker of Parliament. To further consolidate public finances, the coalition will again reduce the second pension pillar. Although the ECB will start cutting rates, Slovak mortgages will not become cheaper, as the state's fiscal profligacy will raise government bond rates.
