Power generation rose 11% to 29.9 TWh in 2023

Power generation in Slovakia increased by 11% to 29.9 TWh last year. Consumption, on the other hand, was down 6% to 26.5 TWh, the energy grid operator SEPS reported. Before the pandemic, consumption exceeded 30 TWh, but then rising prices limited consumption, especially in industry, with the largest consumer, aluminum smelter Slovalco, suspending production. The generation picked up after the third bloc of the Mochovce nuclear power plant was launched. Net exports amounted to 3.4 TWh and the largest market for electricity exports was Hungary.
