Parliament approves massive increase in energy price compensations
MPs approved that around ten of the largest industrial energy consumers will get 35% of the price of emission allowances back. This will bring compensation for energy-intensive firms to the level of other EU industrialized countries. This year, the companies are to get back 7.5%. The Environment Fund will keep 50% of proceeds from the allowance sale from 2025 (last year, it cashed in €342m) and the money will also go to national parks. Until now, this has been state budget revenue. This change was one of the conditions for the Slovalco aluminum smelter to resume production.
