Paltry results of courts clean-up
After the OĽaNO government took over, police arrested 16 judges of Bratislava courts and accused them of corruption, namely selling verdicts in various cases to the highest bidder. They also detained Monika Jankovská, a former Deputy Justice Minister. The key evidence was Marian Kočner messages and the testimony of Judge Vladimír Sklenka. In five years, police pressed charges only in eight cases and there is only one valid court verdict (Judge Miriam Repáková confessed and received a 3-year suspended sentence). After the Smer government took office, some of the corrupt judges became advisors to the PM and the chances of further convictions were sharply reduced.
