Office buildings and shopping centers pose risk for financial stability

Office buildings and shopping centers are a new risk for financial stability after the increase in interest rates, central bank NBS report says. Both financing banks and real estate mutual funds that have such property in their portfolios face the risk. Their owners may not be able to pass on higher costs in rents as more employees work from home and more shopping is done online. Commercial real estate financing accounts for nearly a quarter of corporate lending and real estate funds account for a quarter of mutual fund assets.
