New government sees incinerators as the best solution for municipal waste
The new government’s manifesto sees incinerators as the "best solution for municipal waste treatment" and meeting EU obligations. In the EU, 24% of municipal waste ends up in landfills, but the Slovak share is 40%. Slovakia needs to reduce the share to 10% by 2035. The Wood&Co group wants to build five incinerators at a cost of €600m, but under the former government it was unable to obtain permits for the first project in Šaľa.
