Interest rates on new mortgages will rise to 4.5% and will remain at that level at least until 2025, NBS forecasts. Until then, roughly half of existing mortgages will get a new rate and monthly installments will rise by hundreds of euros. As mortgages are mostly taken out by wealthier households, the volume of non-performing loans should remain low. However, Slovaks also face high inflation and their bank deposits were 1.3% lower year-on-year in January.
