Ružomberok-based pulp and paper mill Mondi SCP launched a €150m investment in a new energy source to replace the existing biomass boiler and use waste from pulp and paper production. Completion is scheduled for mid-2027. The new source will also be used for central heating in Ružomberok. Nitrogen oxide emissions will be reduced by 50% and solid pollutants by 83%. The Environment Fund provided €30m for the project. Last year, the paper mill reported a net profit of €73.9m on €748.4m sales. However, due to high energy and wood prices, it lost €25.9m in 2023. The international Mondi Group owns 51% of the shares and Milan Fiľo 49%.
