Mochovce to be launched in two months

ÚJD, the nuclear authority, has published its draft final approval for the third bloc of the Mochovce nuclear power plant. The bloc with an installed output of 471 MW is now expected to start producing electricity in two months. The approval was first issued last May and since then ÚJD has been dealing with appeals. The bloc may ease the currently high power prices and will improve the financial situation of Slovenské elektrárne, 34% owned by the state, with the rest shared by Enel and EPH.

The police are still investigating several cases related to the completion, namely its delays, cost overruns and use of low quality materials. Its budget has ballooned from the initial €2.8bn to €6.2bn.
