Fruit drinks firm McCarter (Rio or Aloe Vera brands) replaced sugar in its products with fruit juice to avoid the new sugar tax. It is even using the change of recipe in its marketing. Other producers in Slovakia are not announcing a similar change and are preparing to increase prices, some by up to 30%. The government wants to collect €78m from the new tax on sweetened drinks next year and €108m the year after.
