Labor unions in Bratislava Volkswagen car plant are not concerned about layoffs

Labor unions in the Bratislava Volkswagen car plant are not concerned about the layoffs being talked about by unions in the Western European VW plants. The 11,000-strong plant will hire hundreds of people this year and is still one of VW's most efficient plants. VW is struggling amid the switch to electric cars and cheap Chinese competition. The Bratislava plant invested €424m and increased wages by 10.5% last year, and is negotiating a new collective agreement as the current one expires in August. It recently launched production of the VW Passat and Škoda Superb models and is preparing to produce the Porsche Cayenne electric SUV.
