Duslo, Wienerberger, OFZ and Kronospan have met the conditions of the May 2024 Recovery Facility call for decarbonization projects funded with money originally earmarked for U.S. Steel. While the first three companies have already signed contracts for the subsidies, the Environment Ministry will not sign a €36m contract with Kronospan, sources tell the daily Sme. They cite two possible reasons: the company’s CEO, Daniel Huliak, is the brother of Tourism Minister Rudolf Huliak, and so Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba fears that the EU will not approve the subsidy because of a conflict of interests. The second possible reason is that Taraba and Rudolf Huliak fell out last year and their dispute caused the company not to get the money. The firm and the two ministers declined to comment.
