Households may not get cheap electricity after all

Delays in approval of the Mochovce nuclear power plant’s third bloc put at risk the government's promise that households will pay electricity prices at the same level as this year’s in 2023-24. Earlier this year, the third bloc was expected to receive final approval in April and reach full capacity in September. It is still awaiting a permit and it remains to be seen whether it will produce any power at the beginning of 2023. ÚVO, the nuclear authority, is still examining analyses and expert opinions. Slovenské elektrárne expects the third bloc to provide cheap energy to households in 2023-24 as it has already sold output of its other power plants.
