Government stops subsidizing gas power plants
Following the Russian invasion, the government is changing plans to replace coal with natural gas in central heating systems and will instead prefer biomass, waste incineration, and geothermal energy, said Deputy Economy Minister Karol Galek. It is discussing specific plans with heating facilities and wants to withdraw support for new gas boilers as soon as possible. Veolia, which operates heating in many Slovak cities, criticizes the "unreasonable decision."
