Government allocated EU funds for many more projects than it had money for
The Banská Bystrica region VÚC has to return €1.9m from EU funds for projects that have already been approved and implemented, e.g. school renovation. The official reason was administrative errors. However, the region claims that the Ministry for EU Funds approved many more projects than it had money for (€2.5bn vs €1.9bn), as it expected that some projects would fail. Previously, 5-10% over-allocation used to be normal. Now it seems the state is trying to cut back on some projects.
