Farmers will get higher subsidies
Agriculture Minister Ján Mičovský (OĽaNO) announced that €30m for small farmers will not come from subsidies for the remaining farms, but from his ministry’s budget. The so-called redistributive payments are to be received by farmers with up to 28 ha of land, regardless of their output. Initially, these payments would have reduced subsidies for a large 6,000 ha farm by 8%, or €52,000 annually. Now Mičovský says he will increase farming subsidies by €64m annually to fund the redistributive payments as well as farmers producing meat, fruit, and vegetables. Large farmers like the additional funding, but they insist redistributive payments only be paid to those who actually farm the land.
