PMÚ, the anti-trust authority, is reviewing a deal under which EssilorLuxottica, one of the world's largest eyeglass makers, is acquiring Slovak eye clinics from the Veselý family, the Slanina family’s Dom oka clinic in Rimavská Sobota, and the Juhás family’s Oftum clinic in Košice. EssilorLuxottica, which owns brands like Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Persol, currently operates only a wholesale company, Essilor, in Slovakia. At the end of May, it acquired Optegra—with 70 eye hospitals and diagnostic centers in five countries, including Slovakia—from British private equity firm Mid Europe. Optegra also owns Lexum, which runs 12 private clinics, 28 outpatient centers, and five opticians in Slovakia and Czechia, along with eyeglass lens maker Omega Optix. Lexum had acquired the Slovak clinics over the past two years. The companies taken over by EssilorLuxottica through Optegra reported €15.3m in revenue last year.
