Generous energy price compensations have meant that energy price growth for Slovak households has been the 2nd-lowest among all EU countries after Malta since the end of 2020, Eurostat data show. The price growth was half the EU average and that of other V4 countries. In Czechia, energy prices rose 3-times faster than in Slovakia. If energy price rises in Slovakia had been at the regional average, headline inflation would have increased by three points. The compensations place a burden on public finances.
