Delays in building industrial parks for Volvo and Winkelmann
The state is late building industrial parks for Volvo near Košice and Winkelmann in Rimavská Sobota and faces €36m in penalties from investors for failing to meet deadlines, according to a report by the supreme audit authority NKÚ. It warns the contracts with the investors are disadvantageous for the state. Six economy ministers have been in office since they were signed. The current minister, Denisa Saková, accused her predecessors of concealing hydrogeological surveys in the Volvo park. These showed high groundwater levels and Volvo therefore received €7.7m in compensation from the state to raise the halls by half a meter. In addition, the state spent €92m on landscaping instead of the originally planned €46m. Saková claims that she managed to cut the delays.
