Corruption concerns of foreign companies in Slovakia have been increasing lately
Corruption concerns of foreign companies in Slovakia have been increasing in recent years, according to a survey of European investors in Slovakia by the German, Austrian, Italian, French and Dutch chambers of commerce. They are particularly concerned about rigged public tenders, unequal access to permits, and the lack of punishment of corruption schemes. Fully 85% said corruption is a widespread problem in Slovakia, the 6th-worst level in the EU. Only 26% expect fair punishment for corruptors in Slovakia; the EU average is 54%. The survey also showed that Slovakia's attractiveness to foreign companies is the lowest in five years. The fairness of public tenders is expected to worsen, as the current government has relaxed tender rules and the number of transparent tenders is declining.
