Bratislava Volkswagen car plant made 14% fewer cars last year

The Bratislava Volkswagen car plant increased sales by 2% to €9.7bn last year and its pre-tax profit by 5% to €278m. Production fell 14% to 269,000 cars due to supply chain issues, but sales of expensive SUV models grew. The plant invested €345m last year, up from just €100m in 2021. In 2023-27, the plant plans to invest €1bn in launching the production of 11 new models, including the VW Passat and Škoda Superb later this year and the electric Porsche Cayenne in 2025. The investments will create 70,000 sqm of new halls. The plant cut its workforce by 600 to 10,900 last year but plans to hire hundreds of workers this year. Their average salary, excluding management, was €2,273 last year. It makes the VW Touareg, Audi Q7 and Q8, Porsche Cayenne, VW up! and Škoda Karoq models.
