Best hospitals
The best large hospital is the military hospital in Ružomberok, followed by facilities in Banská Bystrica and Martin. Among small and medium-sized hospitals, the AGEL Košice Hospital and hospitals in Stará Ľubovňa and Poprad lead the way, according to a regular ranking of hospitals by the Ineko think-tank. It takes into account the quality of care, experience of doctors, difficulty of diagnoses, patient satisfaction, as well as financial performance and transparency over the last four years. The pandemic has hit the quality and financial performance of hospitals, especially in 2020-21. The number of surgeries in 2022 was still 17% lower compared to 2019. Last year, health outcomes after treating severe illnesses improved, but re-operations increased. Patient satisfaction ratings are also improving.
