Banks posted a 10% drop in net profit to €1.1bn
Commercial banks posted a 10% drop in net profit to €1.1bn last year, the NBS reported. The decline was due to a new tax, 30% on gross profit, as gross profit rose 15% to €1.8bn. The tax paid by banks doubled to €680m. Net interest income rose by a tenth to €2.5bn and net fee income by 10% to €846m. Banks' profitability remains above the level before the era of rising interest rates.
