PSA is worried about the future of its plant in Trnava
The pandemic shutdown resulted in lost production of 72,000 cars at the Trnava-based PSA car plant, 20% of last year’s output. The plant, though, is already running at four shifts. It is failing to cut costs, which are higher than PSA plants in Portugal and almost on par with Spain, said Martin Dzama, the plant’s production manager. Its future will be at risk if it does not win another model in competition with other PSA plants. It makes the Citroën C3 and Peugeot 208 models and seeks savings in labor productivity, energy and innovation. No redundancies are planned. The French group PSA is completing its merger with Fiat Chrysler, the new parent company being called Stellantis.
