The price of natural gas fell from last year’s €21 per MWh to the current €15 on the Prague commodity exchange, the lowest level since September 2016. The low demand stems from a warm winter, full storage facilities and the coronavirus outbreak. The storage facilities were filled by high-priced gas and won’t empty due to the warm winter, which might be lethal to some gas companies. On the other hand, the low price might push some companies to switch from coal to gas and also stimulates the production of gas-powered power plants.
