The PS/Spolu parties filed criminal charges and called on the tax authority FS to levy €40m additional tax on Penta. In 2009, Penta used the merger of its health insurers Apollo and Dôvera to book €400m in artificial profits that the merged insurer could distribute to shareholders despite the then ban on distribution of dividends. It booked the profit in a way to avoid income tax that it would have paid if the profit were real. The state lost €90m this way. The transaction was okayed by Peter Kažimír, the then Deputy Finance Minister. Now, PS/Spolu wants the transaction to be reviewed again. Penta says this is part of the election campaign.
