Markíza with higher profit and revenue
Slovakia’s largest TV group, Markíza, reported a 7.9% increase in revenues to $97.7m in 2017. This is the highest level since 2011. Its OIBDA operating profit improved 55% to $24.7m. Markíza stopped free-to-air broadcasting of its signal early in 2017, which produced €5m cost savings. It also increased the fees it charges cable and satellite TV providers fourfold, to $7.5m annually. It was able to sell all its ad slots, and increased ad rates.
Markíza’s owner, Time Warner, is allegedly selling its CEE assets. The media reported that Penta and CEFC of China submitted a joint bid for all those assets, including Markíza.
