Automotive sector in Slovakia depends on electric cars
The future of the Slovak automotive sector depends on the decisions of four global car makers concerning where they will produce electric cars. If the car makers abandon internal combustion engines (ICE), the automotive sector will lose over a third of its jobs as it is much easier to make electric cars. The game is on where the jobs will disappear. German Labor Unions have pushed Volkswagen to move the production of electric cars to Germany. The only VW electric car is made in Bratislava at the moment. French PSA has abandoned plans to make ICEs in Trnava, and hinted it might invest into electric cars there instead. Kia Motors is yet to reveal its plans. Jaguar Land Rover has already presented a plan to make electric car batteries in Nitra to state authorities.
