Chinese energy and investment group CEFC, active in the Czech Republic, has teamed up with the Penta group to buy Time Warner’s Central European Media Enterprises, the owner of TV Markíza and TV Nova, say sources of the Reuters agency. The deal would value the CME stake at €500m. CEFC denied it is buying CME, and Penta declined to comment. According to earlier media reports, Penta will bid for CME together with PPF of Petr Kellner and Daniel Křetínský.

If Penta and CEFC take over CME, the two largest TV stations in Slovakia, Markíza and Joj (financed by J&T, which has business with CEFC), will link, as well as the largest billboard firm (Akzent BigBoard), radio stations (Jemné, Anténa Rock, Vlna) and print publishers (NMH, Petit Press).
