The government signed a contract to provide €214m in state assistance to Chinese firm Gotion for its €1.2bn electric car battery plant in Šurany. The assistance is to be given to GIB EnergyX, a company in which Gotion holds 80% and InoBat Auto (Marián Boček) 20%. Of the €214m, €150m is to be a direct subsidy for technologies and €64m a tax break. The project is to create 1,311 jobs. This is the second largest foreign investment in Slovakia’s history. Gotion will also create a product development center with 50 engineers at the plant. The first test sample will be produced in September 2025 and the plant is expected to reach full production capacity of 20 GWh in June 2027. It already has customers for this production capacity and is negotiating with other potential customers to expand capacity to 40 GWh.
Gotion has 14 plants with a capacity of 100 GWh and supplies batteries to Volkswagen, which holds a 25% stake in it.
