Slovakia Energy is leaving the market, suppliers of last resort will incur huge losses
Electricity and gas supplier Slovakia Energy, part of Bohemia Energy (Jiří Písařík), is leaving the Slovak market with immediate effect. It is responding to rising energy prices in conjunction with price regulation. Existing customers will either immediately switch to another provider of their choice, or within three months will automatically be switched to the supplier of last resort designated by regulator ÚRSO. Market No.4 Slovakia Energy has 308,000 clients and last year, its sales rose 10% to €116.8m. Since entering the Slovak market in 2011, it has reported a €2.6m loss here. (teraz.sk)
Following the exit of Slovakia Energy, the suppliers of last resort will incur huge losses. They will have to buy energy for new clients at the spot market at the current high prices but will still be limited to charging households and small companies low, regulated prices. Further exits may follow.
