Share of Slovak produce on retail shelves has topped 40%

The share of Slovak produce on retail shelves has topped 40% after seven years, according to regular surveys by PKS, the local food chamber. The share rose 1.5 points to 41.4% over the past year; it bottomed out at 37.2% in 2017. The retailer with the higher share of Slovak foodstuffs was COOP Jednota (55%), followed by Fresh and CBA (both 50%). Lidl (28%) is on the other end of the spectrum, but its share has doubled over the last five years. The highest share of Slovak produce is in the categories of milk (70%), waters (63%) and wine (52%). It is lowest in confectionery (9%), oils (12%), and canned food (17%). Domestic producers are asking for more state support.
