Real wages in Slovakia are now double what they were in 1989
Real wages in Slovakia are now double what they were in 1989, according to calculations by the fiscal responsibility council RRZ. Slovakia has thus halved the wage gap with Austria, but has been catching up much more slowly, if at all, over the last 14 years. Although the new government declares that it wants to kickstart the catch-up growth again, it is not working on the necessary structural reforms in education or innovation.
