Michal Gučík, Martin Kohút, Jan Balciar and Ľubomír Skuhra face corruption charges
Police have charged businessman Michal Gučík and ex-military intelligence chiefs Jan Balciar and Ľubomír Skuhra. They are alleged to have siphoned off €74m in 2013-20 through corruption in the procurement of goods and services. In total, the police charged 17 people and two companies. Gučík is a friend of Prosecutor General Maroš Žilinka. The media have previously highlighted Balciar's extensive real estate portfolio worth at least €3m, which his salary was not enough to cover. (aktuality.sk) Police also detained Martin Kohút, the former head of the IT firm Ness and the Slovak Ice Hockey Association, on money laundering charges. The charges are allegedly not related to Ness.
