Matovič pushes for higher child benefits, ignores expert advice

“It is my goal to give every working parent €200 a month for every child in a family,“ writes Igor Matovič on his Facebook. He thinks increasing this social benefit five times is “basic justice“, without dwelling on sources of funding. SaS and Za ľudí keep rejecting any tax hikes but want to wait until Matovič presents his specific proposals.

The government might avert a demographic crisis by managing immigration and improving services for families, such as adding kindergartens, improving schools and making labor market more flexible, agree experts polled by the E daily. They do not expect direct financial benefits to have much impact on demography, but they will massively impact public finances.
