Maroš Žilinka does not want courts to decide

The Office of Prosecutor General Maroš Žilinka released Vladimír Pčolinský (Sme rodina), former SIS director from custody and dropped all charges against him. Similarly, it dropped charges against Penta partner Jaroslav Haščák and fixer at courtsZoroslav Kollár. Haščák does not plan to return to Penta’s management and Kollár will stay in custody as he faces further charges. Charges were also dropped against the Arpáš couple who, along with Haščák, had been charged with corruption in efforts to destroy the Gorila dossier. The charges were dropped over alleged technicalities as well as weak testimonies and other evidence. Many wonder why the courts were not left to decide the cases. Courts have already admitted some of the evidence; for instance, they approved a plea deal of Branislav Beňa who admitted to bribing Pčolinský. Interestingly, special prosecutors aimed to press charges against Pčolinský next week.

Politicians from the anti-corruption party OĽaNO are demanding an explanation. Parties Sme rodina, Smer, and Hlas welcome the decision and want further charges against their allies dropped. Za ľudí demands that the Prosecutor General be stripped of his power to drop charges in cases supervised by special prosecutors.
