Inflation jumped to 8.5%
Inflation in the eurozone accelerated to 5.1% in January, a record since the euro adoption 20 years ago, Eurostat estimates. As in previous months, energy and food prices rose the most. In Slovakia, annual inflation soared to 8.5% amid higher energy prices, the 3rd-highest level in the euro area after Lithuania and Estonia. This is the highest value since 2003.
