Gotion InoBat Batteries will build a factory for electric car batteries in Šurany

Gotion InoBat Batteries, a joint venture of Chinese Gotion and local InoBat (Marian Boček), will build a factory for electric car batteries in Šurany near Nitra, and will employ 1,500 people upon production launch in 2026. It signed a memorandum of understanding with the government on Thursday. The factory’s capacity will be 20 GWh in the first phase, with a future potential of 40 GWh. The amount of the investment has not been disclosed, but analysts estimate it at €1.5-2bn. Gotion, which is among the world’s three largest battery conglomerates, says this will be the most advanced battery factory in the world. Gotion's largest shareholder is Volkswagen (with a 24% stake), which has postponed its plans to build a battery factory in the CEE region due to weak demand for electric cars.
