Construction firms working on highways demand €40m to cover rising costs of materials
Construction companies working on highways are demanding €40m extra from NDS, the national highway company, to cover the rising costs of construction materials. About 70 km highways for €1.5bn are currently under construction. NDS is reviewing the demands and warns that meeting them might violate the public procurement legislation. Unfinished projects and construction firms’ bankruptcies are a real threat. One example of rising prices is construction iron, which got 2-3-times more expensive in recent months.
