Adam Marek is to become new VšZP CEO

Health Minister Michal Palkovič dismissed the CEO of the state-owned health insurer VšZP Richard Strapko after three years at the job. The remaining two BoD members, Beáta Havelková and Ľubomír Kováčik, are also quitting. Under him, VšZP lost €355m in 2020-22 and another €50m in the first quarter of this year. It expects a loss of €240m for the whole of this year. Strapko says the only effective solution to VšZP problems is higher state funding for the healthcare system. Palkovič explains that Strapko has presented an insufficient cost cutting plan. He justified VšZP's decision not to sign a contract for all departments of the new Bory hospital in Bratislava on the grounds that the state insurer does not have the money for Bory.

Adam Marek, now an analyst at the Value for Money unit and previously the founder of the Viamo payment service, is to become new VšZP CEO, Trend sources say.
