€300m subsidy for US Steel Košice may be withdrawn

Previous governments have approved €600m for the U.S. Steel plant in Košice, half from the Modernization Fund and half from the Recovery Facility. The current government is considering not giving the €300m from the Recovery Facility for the replacement of coal furnaces with electric ones, as the steel mill will not be able to complete the investment by mid-2026, also because of the pending acquisition of the U.S. corporation by Japan's Nippon Steel. According to the E daily sources, Nippon Steel is refusing to implement the project as planned by U.S. Steel. The government is preparing a revision of the Recovery Facility, and one of the changes would be to redirect money from the steel mill to other projects. In particular, Slovnaft and Duslo have a chance.
