Four highways via PPP
Transport Minister Andrej Doležal (Sme rodina) wants to use a public-private partnership (PPP) to build four highways, namely the D1 Turany-Hubová, R4 Prešov-border crossing with Poland, R1 under Donovaly, and D4 Rača-Marianka with a tunnel under Malé Karpaty, according to sources of HN. First, he will submit a list of priority highways and find out which ones the EU is willing to fund, either via the standard cohesion funds or the new economic recovery fund. So far, Slovakia has used PPP to build two highways, Pr1bina near Nitra and the Bratislava highway bypass, and is paying €190m annually to the private partners.
