SPF is increasing rents to farmers

SPF, a fund managing the land of state and unspecified owners (about a quarter of arable land in Slovakia), is increasing rents to farmers. Under the previous government, it had been increasing rents in new contracts with a usual duration of ten years. Now, it is trying to increase rents, quintupling them in some cases, in contracts that expire in several years. Farmers are protesting the hikes and contractual terms, and have turned to the anti-trust authority PMÚ as well as Agriculture Minister Ján Mičovský (OĽaNO). SPF used to charge just several euros per hectare annually, while commercial rents come to tens of euros.
