VW close to investing in Bratislava

The cabinet office ÚV has retracted an already published press release in which the Bratislava Volkswagen plant pledged to invest €500m by 2025 and create 2,000 new jobs in return for the government helping to build 2,000 new apartments for rent in the plant’s vicinity, building a job training center and helping with public transport. Allegedly, VW has not made a final decision about the investment and will do so in the summer. Media speculate the Bratislava plant will produce the VW Passat and Škoda Superb models as well as small electric cars. In 2019, the plant announced a reduction in staff numbers by 3,000 from 15,000.
