Peter Pellegrini is leaving Smer party and setting up his own

Ex-PM Peter Pellegrini announced he is leaving the Smer party and setting up his own. He can’t coexist with Robert Fico, and turned down his offer for the position of Smer party leader. Fico was willing to step down and become head of the Alexander Dubček Foundation. Pellegrini is yet to disclose his new party colleagues, but they are likely to include Denisa Saková, Richard Raši and Peter Žiga. Media estimate ten of Smer’s 37 MPs will join him. According to a recent poll, over 20% of Slovaks would vote for the new party.
