Tender to renovate the Bratislava-Czech border rail line might derail

The state-run rail infrastructure operator Železnice SR plans to sign a €275m contract with ICM and Váhostav to renovate the Bratislava-Czech border rail line by May 29, which is the deadline for using EU funds for the project. As the tender has dragged on for three years, EU fund allocation has shrunk from €200m to just €38m. The tender has not been completed, though, and currently faces a lawsuit filed by Strabag. Deputy PM Veronika Remišová points at allegations of corruption and numerous failures by Železnice SR, such as unsound tender documents.
